I love ballet. I love how it looks, feels, what it does for your body...it's beautiful. Little known fact about me...I used to be heavily involved in ballet. Most of my childhood I was in ballet classes. I even took a class in college. When I was in high school, our instructor took us to Houston, where an examiner from the Royal Academy of Dance in England was there to watch us go thru exams and grade us. I received a grade of "highly commended," which was pretty darn good back then. I loved dancing en pointe (those hard toe shoes) and yeah, my feet were tough and strong. I miss ballet a lot. And so, I'm going to work this workout DVD back into my routine. For me, exercise needs to be something fun and not really feel like exercise. So ballet and hip hop (yes) fit! I won't be wearing a tutu or pointe shoes, though. And it will be a long time until I can do that cover photo stretch.
And with this blog entry, I'm trying to keep myself accountable. :) Taking better care of myself and not putting me last.

Ahh.. I have this DVD and the second one. I should try it again now that I've been dancing for just about a year again. I do remember doing this a while ago. I have to tell you, returning to class as an adult student is about 100x better than any DVD. You should see if there are any open (AKA drop in) adult classes near you. I avoided it for a long time, wanting to be in better shape, thinner, etc before I started. But, the changes in my body in the last year since I went back to dance make me so glad I did it. I even took a hip-hop class last month.

Wow! How fabulous! I used to be a tap dancer. Like you, I was really involved and miss it so very much. I've been thinking a lot lately about getting back into it. I wonder if they have a tap dance equivalent to this DVD...

Jennifer -
I am so proud of you for doing this. Your statement about not putting yourself last hit so close to home as that is what I am doing for myself this year. Planning on becoming more healthy and taking better care of myself so I can in turn take better care of my family.
Keep us posted. Hope to see you soon. Love Lori

that looks really cool. I love ballet and like you, working out needs to be fun (not seem like "work"!). Let us know how the DVD is... I so used to be flexible. I wish for those days and need to work on that!

Happy New Year!

that looks cool. I have been thinking about enrolling in a tap class but have no clue where I would fit it in. I took dance lessons for 14 years mostly tap but I did take 4 or 5 years of ballet.

I am impressed. Many girls take ballet but to be "highly commended" is reason to be proud.
Have fun dancing.

Wow. I had no idea. I don't remember you ever mentioning it. I love ballet, too and would have loved to have been en pointe. What a great thing to be "highly commended"! Good for you. I'm sure you will feel great for sticking with it and taking care of yourself.

Go for it Jennifer!
You can twirl about en pointe at Inspired.
My parents never let me take dance classes. I still grieve that I've never worn a frilly tutu!

I studied ballet and jazz from middle school through college. I've had this DVD for about 6 years. I haven't tired of it yet! I rarely do all the exercises at one time anymore though, but I do at least 20 minutes a day - more realistic for me to stay with it! Good luck and don't forget to breathe...
