12.14.07

This weekend we have some friends coming into town that our family has known for over 30 years. Every year in December we get together on a Saturday. We always exchange ornaments, always sing The Twelve Days of Christmas, and every year it seems like we add a new child. It's a lot of fun. :) And since our house will hold the most people, we're having most of the festivities on Saturday at our home. The big dinner will be here, so today I'm making 48 enchiladas, 24 New Mexico Beef Enchiladas (the recipe I always use...so wonderful) and 24 Green Chile/Cheese Enchiladas. Sisters and mom will supply the beans, rice, chips, salsa, and dessert.

Since there will be about 18 of us, I have several tables set. This is just one of them. I have a chartreuse silk tablecloth with a red one underneath (shows at the bottom), a red velvet table runner, gold and red charger plates, gold and red napkins, and these great dishes I got at Target several years ago. They are cream-colored and say "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" all around the rim. I just love them. For the table centerpiece (VERY easy and simple) I used some realistic greenery, sugared berry stems (berry stems with that clear glitter/sugar on them), and lots of red and green votives, some placed inside the greenery. In the middle of the table I have this gorgeous red mercury glass candleholder that I found at Kohl's for about $6.00. (they are also available in green and silver) Another of the tables is for the kids, so it has a red/white/silver checked table cloth, red paper plates, a jingle bell tree in the middle, and scattered Christmas candy all down the middle. They'll love that. Note: You can click the photo above to see a larger view.

This is really the only big Christmas meal that we're hosting, so I'm putting extra effort into this one. (We have reservations at a beautiful downtown hotel for Christmas Day dinner - going easy!)

Buried somewhere in the garage is a video of me and all of my sisters lip-synching this song in the car, on our way to Disneyworld for Christmas. Gotta find it. :)

New Kids on the Block - Funky, Funky Christmas!
Kick the ballistics, Santa Claus.
(and I still remember all of the words)

I tried to post here last night and my computer cut out on me and when I got on my laptop later, I forgot to come back :)

I got the biggest kick outta watching that old footage of NKOTB on the Arsenio Hall show...lordy... forgot all about him! So funny!

Your table scape looks so pretty and festive. And I love those plates from Target! Have a great time entertaining, as I know you will!

Also wanted to say thanks for the words of encouragement you gave me in my previous blog post. I will be keeping YOU in my thoughts and prayers for a perfect New Year's wish as well! We need to keep thinking "positive"! :)
