Birthday at the Bigger Jigger!

I've blogged before about how funny my Mom is. She loves to do parties in "themes." My birthday party was no exception! I knew she was going to do something fun and corny, but this just takes the cake! (and I loved it!) The theme of the party was "Mama's Family." I absolutely love this show. (I TIVO it every day!) It is soooo campy and silly, but really the humor is very small town. Having grown up in a small town, I can really relate to a lot of the jokes on the show. If you have no idea what this show is or don't know much about it, you might want to go to the next paragraph, ha. :) On my mom's front door was a sign that said, "Welcome to the Bigger Jigger!" Inside the house was another sign that read "Raytown City Limit." And on the inside of her backdoor was the sign "Quick Keys - Vinton Harper, mgr." :) So funny! She served "La Vienna cookies, " chips and dip (something the Harpers considered very fancy), and we played Mama's Family trivia and had Mama's Family word searches. Love it! We also sang 70's and 80's karaoke until we couldn't stand it anymore. (Let's just say that my family is NOT the Osmond family!) My Mom just got new next door neighbors and I was thinking "I wonder if they can hear us AND if they've seen the 'Bigger Jigger' sign on the front door." haha! It was a really fun night and my hummingbird cake was delicious. :)

And here are my birthday presents! I got two new pink watches (something I asked for, and the one on the left has pink indiglo!), the Paula Deen cooking DVDs, some fun jewelry from Am. Eagle Outfitters, and a Target gift card. (always fun!) The ribbon was from one of the gifts, and you know I'll be saving it for scrapbooking. :)

Oh...and on the morning of my birthday, my sweet husband made me the BEST breakfast! I was served a beautiful breakfast in bed. Homemade blueberry pancakes, scrambled eggs with provolone cheese, bacon, orange juice, and fresh-roasted coffee. It was wonderful! My husband is such a blessing. :) As he was carrying the tray into the room, Noah ran ahead of him and pretended to do a trumpet fanfare, haha!

Since the Super Bowl is on tonight, I'll share a favorite dip recipe. This is REALLY good with french bread pieces, crackers, or tortilla chips. Serve it right out of the oven!

Artichoke Dip
2 cups grated parmesan cheese
2 cups mayonnaise
26 oz. marinated artichoke hearts, drained and smashed/cut into small pieces
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
3 tsp. garlic powder
2 tsp. paprika

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In a large bowl, throughly mix the mayonnaise, parmesan, artichokes, mozzarella, and garlic powder. Transfer the mixture to a greased 13x9 baking dish or large, flat baking dish. (it will be a thin layer in a larger pan)
Bake 30 minutes, or until surface is lightly browned and bubbly.
Sprinkle with paprika and serve while still very warm.

God bless you this week! :)

Happy belated birthday!

I've been such a bad blogger friend, but I promise to be better.

Whew, I've got lots to say. First, I can't WAIT to see your space in the March CK. I can't wait to tell my sisters, "Yeah, I know her." I'll feel soooo cool saying that.

And your birthday scrap goodies look devine.

And those Andes Mint Cookies will be the death of me.

If I come visit you, will you cook for me?

Oh my goodness, can I be adopted by your family? What a great party!!!! I love Mama's Family too although I haven't seen it in years (we don't have that channel). I get all the references except Bigger Jigger - you'll have to explain that one.

Happy Birthday! Sounds like you had a great one!

I love the Mama's Family theme for your party! Your mom is a riot! I grew up in Kansas and visiting Mama's family is like going home...well, maybe we weren't quite that bad. But I can relate, let's say that! Love the Paula Deen videos. Let me know what they are like..are they compilations of her TV shows or all different things? Sounds like a great birthday and great birthdaya breakfast!
